Shanghai Knights

Director: David
Dobkin
Producer (s): Jackie
Chan, Solon So, Willie Chan, Roger Birnbaum, Gary Barber, Jonathan
Glickman
In the 1880's, Carson
City Sheriff, Chon Wangs (Jackie
Chan) father (who is the keeper of the Imperial Seal) has been
murdered by Parliament and royal family member Nelson Rathbone (Aidan
Gillen). Rathbone steals the Seal and leaves.Chon Wang's sister, Chon
Lin (Fann Wong) witnessed Rathbone murdering her father. Lin follows
Rathbone to London to seek vengeance for the death of her father. mean
while sending Chon a letter telling him of the murder. Chon then travels
to New York for Roy O'Bannon (Owen Wilson), who is a successful...waiter!?
When rejoicing about
past times, the two set off to London to meet up with Lin. When getting
to London they soon find out that Rathbone has made a deal with Chinese
contact, Wu Chan (Donnie Yen).
I wont spoil it for you!
Here is a first for Jackie
Chan, yes working with Donnie Yen. After Knights, Jackie cameo'ed in
Twins Effect, which Donnie Yen was the action director of. Another amusing
part of Knights was its historical cameo's. For incenses Chon and Roy
meeting the young Charlie Chaplin. Both Chon and Roy working with the
future author of the Sherlock Holmes novels, Roy O'Bannon actually coming
up with the name, Sherlock Holmes!
Another surprise was
Fann Wong, this was the first of me seeing her act and she played her
role well. She worked good with Jackie and Owen. The fights in Knights
turned out to be better than Noon. The Lobby fight was good although
it has some cartoon sound effects which spoil it. The Library fight
was also very enjoyable with Jackie's use of the ladder, running along
with it, flipping it, we haven't seen anything as such since First Strike.
Also when Roy O'Bannon and Chon Wang see Wu Chan on the deck of the
boat facing the royal family. Chon Wang suddenly leaps from the bridge
they were looking from and on to the bottom. But the music used for
that moment makes the scene very powerful and very enjoyable as it leads
to a memorable fight against Chon Wang and Wu Chan!
Well Shanghai Knights
was a feast for the eyes for Jackie fans. This is enjoyable from beginning
to end.
