Save the Green Planet

Director:
Jang Joon-Hwan
Plot:
Local misfit Lee Byeong-gu kidnaps the CEO of a Korean chemical firm
believing that he is an Alien from the planet Andromeda. Byeoung-gu
conceals businessman – Kang in an underground workshop beneath
his home in the secluded mountains.
Byeong-gu
uncovered a theory that the Alien Prince is on a voyage to the so-called
“Green Planet” and should be arriving in four days. Byeong-gu
has taken it upon himself to probe (and at one point, physically) Kang
for information and find a way to save the much loved “Green Planet”.
Review:
This is one crazy movie, when seeing it for the first time you’ll
probably wonder how bonkers Shin Ha-Kyun’s character really is.
When
seeing his history in flashback sequences you really feel for his character,
the heart-ache that he’s had to endeavor. There is really a part
of you that wants him to succeed even though his theories are pretty
goofy.
A
Subplot is of two cops working on the suspected abduction of Kang. One
is a weird veteran cop who is a laughing joke to the other officers.
The other is a rookie detective who idolizes the veteran cop and his
crime solving techniques. With their research they discover that all
their clues are pointing towards Byeong-gu.
The
film has a wide range of genres rolled into it’s 118 minute running
time, everything from: Comedy to tragedy, drama to sci-fi and dark comedy
to romance! The
films soundtrack is very powerful and I can assure you that you will
never hear "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" the same very again.
Shin
Ha-Kyun is flawless in playing a mad alien obessive, he also has great
comic timing an example of this is when he has too turn the tv off because
he has an image on that will prove him guilty.
I
know the review is short, but I can’t go into detail without spoiling
it for you. Plus I’m not exactly getting paid for this gig yet,
just think of it as a short, but sweet review.
Final
thoughts? Jang Joon-Hwan delivers well for his debut piece! Enjoy!
