Rush Hour
Director: Brett
Ratner
Yes you know the story,
the biggest mouth in the west meets the fast hands in the east...
Detective Inspector Lee
(Jackie Chan) from Hong
Kong prevents precious pieces of China's history being smuggled out
of the country by local crime lord, Jun Tao. Although Jun Tao viciously
seeks revenge by kidnapping the daughter of the American Chinese Consul,
Consul Han (Tzi Ma)...
Consul Han has the FBI
set on the case, but he believes they aren't capable of handling this
case, so he brings in one of his own men from Hong Kong, Inspector Lee.
Although the FBI have their own plans for Inspector Lee. They rope in
an FBI wanna'be police officer from Los Angles Police Department, Inspector
Carter (Chris Tucker).
The FBI have Carter pick
up and look after Inspector Lee, although the cultural differences is
basically mixing your hand with toaster, yes Trouble. Although when
both Lee and Carter put their differences aside for the Consuls daughter,
Soo-Yung...
Rush Hour is a excellent
little piece of action comedy, showing Jackie Chan in the right light.
Setting him aside someone the exact opposite was also a great idea,
Chris Tucker was a excellent choice. Before Tucker the role was meant
for Blade star, Wesley Snipes. The film was also given the title, "Feucious
Brown", although I'm not sure if the spelling is correct.
Brett Ratner, being a
fan of Jackie Chan really wanted to show Jackie off as best as he can,
having Jackie recreate jokes from past films such as Mr. Nice Guy. We
even see people from Jackie's stunt team, Mars has a cameo in the opening
credits of the film, Ken Lo is noticeable during the film when he kicked
Chris Tucker in the restaurant and has the greatest one liner known
to date;
Chris Tucker: "Which
one of you'all kicked me?"
Ken Lo: "Me!"
Adam Cheng makes random
appearances as one of Jun Tao's henchmen.
Rush Hour, many Jackie
fans love it, many fans cant stand it. But Jackie has gained millions
of fans through this movie, even me, I must say. The known fact that
millions of people cant stand Chris Tuckers style of squealy comedy,
but I find a pleasant touch to the film. Rush Hour, love it, hate it....it
still earned over 33 million dollars in its opening weekend.
