Hidden Heroes

Director: Joe Ma & Soi Cheang
Plot: Our story starts with Yoiji (Ronald Cheng) as a cop and not much of one at that. We then find out that a robot form the future (Charlene Choi) has been sent to kill him to make sure he dies within a few days. He then goes on the run and meets Chan Mei Ling (Charlene Choi) who forges a passport for him and happens to look just like the robot. He then constructs a plan to kill her and save his own life. But things soon become complicated as he discovers his mum (Bonnie Wong) has a family he never knew about.
Review: This is a really fun movie that combines many genre's. Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Romance and Science Fiction. I found Ronald Cheng to be highly entertaining and I found Charlene Choi to be very entertaining in both roles. I was really taken by her sadistic smile and the evilness that her charcter was just capable of at time. Although at first I found the film to be a little boring and not too intersting. I find the second half picks up and more than makes up for it with depth and storyline. I also enjoyed the performances from Qin Hailu and Bonnie Wong.
It is worth noting that you should look out for Yuen Wah as an eccentric inventor. I also recomend looking for Raymond Wong as an American made robot sporting a look which copies Tony Leung from 2046.
For me films like this are proof that Hong Kong films are just as good as ever and that the HK film industry is filled with many talents. The main one being Joe Ma who gets the writing credit.
I would recomend this to all fans of fun films.
