(Prism Leisure): When a shipment of lethal explosives goes
missing, a veteran Hong Kong policemen (Eric
Tsang) forms a team of offbeat young cops to track it down.
These generation X law enforcers find themselves up against a similarly
youthful gang boss (Daniel Wu),
and the shadowy Japanese mastermind (Toru Nakamura) behind him.
At the turn of a new
century, Hong Kong provides the stunning backdrop for the explosive
showdown between the law and the lawless.
Produced presented and
also featuring Jackie Chan in a cameo role, this is more than just an
action movie – Gen X Cops combines the best in Hong Kong martial arts
with Hollywood special effects.
Personal Thoughts:
When I first purchased this, I didn’t know any of the main cast apart
from Eric Tsang and Daniel Wu. Yet I insisted to watch this movie as
soon as I got to my home. Watching the excellent character of Inspector
Chan (Eric Tsang) hiring
three thug lookie-like police students Match (Stephen
Fung), Alien (Sam Lee)
and Jack (Nicholas Tse)
to help return the stolen ‘lethal’ weapons.
Jack, the hard man of the piece, using his little quote for his name
“My Names Jack, like a deck of cards, if your happy with
that you can Jack-Off”. He seems to represent the leader
of the trio, being chosen to ‘take out’ Lock. He is also chosen to be
‘Daniels’ (Daniel Wu’s) ‘New Boy’ and He ends up for filling his promise
to Inspector Chan, on his exit.
Match, when I first seen Match he looked so like a young Jackie Chan,
maybe its just the nose. Well Match is the play-boy. When going to ‘Planet
Disco’ seems to be getting asked for drinks by some girls, then meeting
Haze (Daniel’s ‘Woman’). I’m sure he is the only person to sustain a
gun shot wound (during the battle between Daniel and Locks gangs). Also
quite amusing that certain points Match speaks good English. All ends
happy for him with an his on screen girlfriend Haze.
Alien the crazy haired loud mouth! This is a very remember able character.
He was quite enjoyable when he was talking to the Japanese Bodyguard
insisting that he would screw the bodyguards family for China! Also
getting his head stuck at one point.
The main enemy of the piece is Akatora (played by Toru Nakamura). He
acts as a Cool Shady character who isn’t afraid of death. Akatora plans
to take out an old enemy with use of his ‘new’ fire power. Yet the Gen-X-Cops
get in the way.
Now for the ladies. Y2K (Grace Yip), sister of Inspector Chan’s colleague,
who is killed in the opening of the movie. She attempts to track down
Daniel and Akatora, but only ends up fighting a set of bodyguards and
making a hell of a job doing it to! There isn’t any love interest in
her mind, nor the other three for her. The Other lady of the piece is
Haze (played by Jaymee Ong) She appears on the seen as Daniel’s Woman,
be she suddenly sets her sites on Match, since she remembers a past
relationship between him and her, Match acts in denial and pretends
not to know her. Yet this all turns out bad for Match as he brought
to Daniel and gets a beating for ‘chatting her up’. Yet the tables turn
when she admits she came onto him and soon leaves Daniel for her old
flame, aww how sweet.
Final thoughts, I think this film is great! It’s modern, which is something
I’m not used to, but I do really enjoy this film. It even has it’s line
of guest cameo’s….well two. Bey Logan (playing the SWAT team leader)
and Jackie Chan! As a fisherman! Yes its true. Gen-X-Cops is action,
comedy and exiciting throughout and it is well worth price Prism Leisure
are selling it for (no more than 5 quid).
