Picture:
Mei
Ah has done a decent job bringing the picture to DVD despite the films
difficult mixture of black with strong colors and its grainy look. There
are a few spots here and there though, but nothing that takes from the
film.
Audio:
The audio is quite clear, Mei Ah gives us a great 5.1 surround
sound, in both its original Cantonese, and a dubbed Mandarin option.
There is also an option of Cantonese DTS, for those who want the best
possible sound! All the distant sounds of late HK night are crystal
clear, the cars, the horns, and the ominous chatter. It’s all
there, clear but not distracting Very well done!
Subtitles:
The Subtitles are presented in excellent form. Clear white text displayed
in the black bars. Though there is the odd letters sticking together
here and there, it is far from unreadable.

Special
Features: There are not a lot in the line of special features.
It comes with the usual trailer that runs about two minutes in length.
The trailer is decent, though a little rough in quality. Next we see
what is referred to as a ‘Data Bank’. The Data Bank is not
uncommon on many Mei-Ah DVDs. It is nothing special; it contains a synopsis
of the film, and a quick cast and crew outline. Basically a glamorized
version of what you find on the back of a DVD case. Also Included on
this DVD is a trailer for what looks like a television show, or special
about sex called "20/30 Dictionary" . . . Next we finally
find something of interest in the special features.
Director/Actor
Interviews: This is a nice addition; would be that is. Unfortunately
you must speak Cantonese to understand them, for there are no subtitles
during these interviews, which run about 20 minutes in length.
Personal
Thoughts: Mei-Ah gave us a beautifully packaged DVD here; it
is in a nice black on black sleeve and case with different pictures.
The DVD itself however is far from perfect. Its lackluster features
leave a lot to be desired for those people who love their documentaries
and featurettes. It does have its strong points however. The film is
beautifully transferred, with great sound and very well done subtitles.
Despite its lackluster bonus, this is still a worthwhile DVD, plus it
is a vast improvement over the Zoke released China version. Sometimes
a DVD can be worth buying just to have the film. PTU is such a wonderful
film that this is one of those cases.
