A Man Called Hero

Director: Andrew
Lau
Plot: Based in the first half of the 20th century,
Hero Hua (Ekin Cheng) looses
his family when becomes a student of a great martial artist. Although
upon returning home his family have been slaughtered by a disaffected
member of his martial-arts school, a Japanese student named Invincible
(Francis Ng).
When deciding to leave China Hero marries his childhood love Jade and
leaves her in China as goes to America as an indentured servant. She
comes looking for him soon after finding out she is pregnant, Hero’s
brother, Sheng (Jerry Lamb) escorts Jade to New York…
The young couple reunite and its just in time as she gives birth to
twins. Yet, a notorious traitor to the Chinese springs on Hero and steals
one of his children, Heroes martial arts brother Shadow (voice of Jordan
Chan) seeks vengeance against the traitor…
16 Years Later the remaining Twin, named Sword (Nicholas
Tse) sets out to look for his father with his uncle Sheng. Whilst
their in America he meets a whole group of characters who tells him
stories of his fathers journey in the past 16 years…
Review: I find this film very underrated, Ekin Cheng
and Francis Ng have excellent on screen chemistry, good vs. evil. This
being the second time the two are faced against each other (first being
‘Young and Dangerous’). Also the mysterious Brother Shadow, who cant
be missed. Wearing a yellow/black wooden mask and has no arms, only
using his pony tail to strangle his victims. Yuen Biao also makes an
appearance as the boss of a inn, who looks out for his Chinese brothers.
Ken Lo is also in the film as a Buddhist Monk.
Ekin Cheng's character his desired by others as he is giving the families
‘Red Sword’, a powerful sword which shouldn't be messed with, although
Hero hasn't been seen with it in years…
There is also the story line of Hero being born the Death Star…but I
wont spoil it for you.
